Course Title: Foundation Damage and Repair: Science, Materials and Techniques

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This 6.5 hour live presentation examines the science of structures and soils, investigates foundation design, construction, damage, assessment and repair, and demonstrates the diagnosis of basement wall damage and appropriate repair methods.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify and calculate the loads that act on foundations and understand soil properties, soil bearing capacity, soil settlement, and the effects of water, frost and freeze/thaw cycles.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to discuss the design and construction of foundations, wall footings, column footings, basement walls, walk-outs and partially-exposed foundations.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and assess foundation/slab damage from settlement, expansive soils, frost heave, and shrinkage, and they will be able to determine techniques to repair these damages, including piers, soil tiebacks, underpinning and rebuilding.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify and assess basement wall damage from settlement, expansive soils, frost heave and shrinkage, and they will be able to determine repair techniques piers, carbon fibers, crack repair methods, soil tiebacks and soldier beams.
