Heather Holdridge, EIT

Associate AIA LEED Fellow, Associate Partner, Sustainability Director

Ms. Holdridge, LEED Fellow, EIT, Associate AIA is the Sustainability Director at Lake|Flato Architects. Leveraging her background in mechanical engineering, she directs all Lake|Flato teams in establishing sustainability goals. Ms. Holdridge devises strategies and systems to realize those goals under programs such as LEED, the 2030 Challenge, and the Living Building Challenge. She works closely with teams to evaluate passive systems and performs energy modeling throughout the design process. Ms. Holdridge received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio.

 

Allison Verley

Building Envelope Specialist, Construction Innovations Co, Inc.

Ms. Verley believes knowledge is power and there is always a solution for every situation. With a focus on sustainability, longevity and energy efficiency she stays up to date on the most innovative solutions for the building envelope. Through public speaking, digital media and articles. She is able to bring the forefront of information to local markets with a focus on proper use of materials situationally rather than a cookie-cutter approach. Ms. Verley’s Building Envelope focus includes Masonry Restoration and Moisture Management, Waterproofing, Roofing, Single-ply and Protected Membranes, Garden Roofs, and Assembly Solutions. She earned her undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering.

Course Title: Energy-Efficient Commercial Building Envelope Design and Construction

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour course focuses on the design and construction of energy-efficient building envelopes. Specifically, the course explains how to create and maintain critical barriers, wall systems and energy-efficient roofing systems. The course will also examine energy-efficient building envelopes as part of a Whole Building Approach, as well as energy codes, standards, incentives, and energy-efficient foundation systems and fenestration systems.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to utilize waterproofing, vapor retarders, air barriers and insulation to control water flow, moisture, air leakage and thermal bridging.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to explore energy-efficient roof designs, including low-slope, steep-slope and green roofs, determine insulation levels and reference energy code provisions for roofing systems.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify fenestration characteristics and parameters that affect energy efficiency, and select appropriate window systems, and coordinate window and door locations in the envelope to maximize efficiency.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to define performance building performance goals, quantify energy savings, and reference and comply with the requirements of the International Energy Efficiency Code 2021.
