Vice President of Engineering, Partner at BKV GroupMr. Kurdi has been serving the electrical industry for over 30 years as an engineer, electrician and trainer. He has engineered (design, specify and analyze) government buildings (police stations, sheriff’s offices, fire stations, city halls, court houses, libraries, and jails), housing buildings (affordable, senior, assistant, memory care, adaptable use and student), hospitals, data centers, sport arenas, commercial office buildings, water/wastewater treatment plants and electric utility distribution and substations. Mr. Kurdi’s experience as an electrician includes estimating, laying out, wiring, installing and maintaining electrical systems for residential and commercial buildings. He has served as an engineer on construction projects in numerous locations in Texas, including San Antonio, Arlington, Bryan and Manor. Mr. Kurdi has developed and taught thousands of seminar hours over the years at Dunwoody College of Technology, Minnesota Electrical Association, IEEE & others. The seminars include NEC Code, electrician’s exam, MV system, electrical wiring, apprenticeship, estimation, electrical design, Revit MEP, and project management. He holds a bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering and a master’s degree in Adult Education. Mr. Kurdi is a registered electrical engineer (PE) in 37 states, including Minnesota and Texas. He holds a Class A master electrician license from the State of Minnesota. Currently, Mr. Kurdi is a senior electrical engineer and department head at BKV Group (A&E Firm with offices in Chicago, Dallas, DC & Minneapolis). He served as NCEL board member (Jan 2021 – present), IAEI MN Chapter president (Jan 2018 – Jan 2023), chair of IEEE Twin Cities PES/IAS (Aug 2019 – Jan 2023), Minnesota State Board of Electricity member (Jan 2018 – Jan 2020).

Course Title: Electrical Safety in the Workplace NFPA 70E 2021

Course Description: This four-hour course focuses on electrical safety in the workplace by using NFPA 70E (2021) as a framework. The course explores the relationship between NFPA 70E and other standards, such as OSHA and NFPA 70 (NEC), electrical safety program requirements, and procedures for mitigating risks. The course also examines hazard boundaries, the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and techniques to reduce injury and manage arc flash incidents.

Learners will be able to explain the relationship between NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and NFPA 70 standards, and their significance in workplace safety.

Course Description: This six-hour course examines the applications, design, and installation of permeable pavements. The course will focus on exploring the environmental impacts of paved surfaces as well as the characteristics, cost/benefit analysis, and the installation and maintenance of each type of permeable material. Compliance with the building code and sustainable building standards will also be addressed.
