This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.5 PDHs for professional engineers, 6.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Manuel “Manny” Nuño, P.E., CFM, LEED AP, CPESC

Senior Project Manager at Ware Malcomb

Mr. Nuño is a senior project manager at the Denver office of Ware Malcomb. A 2008 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a specialty in structural and environmental engineering, he has established himself as a leader in the field of drainage and erosion and sediment control. In his 15-year career, Mr. Nuño has excelled in the design of land development projects including grading, utility design, stormwater management, and erosion control. Through his experiences as a consulting engineer, he has prepared civil construction plans for such clients as Marriott International, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), Lennar Homes, Oakwood Homes, and Kiewit Infrastructure West. In the field, Mr. Nuño has provided stormwater inspection services for SDG&E, Caesars Entertainment Group, and public agencies such as the City of Carlsbad, California, and the Town of Elizabeth, Colorado. He has managed civil projects in 17 different states and prides himself on working with developers, architects, and contractors to bridge the gap between regulatory compliance and constructability in the field. Mr. Nuño is a registered professional engineer in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, and California; a Certified Floodplain Manager; a certified professional in erosion and sediment control, a Colorado LEED accredited professional, and a qualified SWPPP developer/practitioner. He is an active member in the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Urban Land Institute, and the Colorado Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers.

Course Title: Effective Stormwater Infiltration

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course, built on a foundational understanding of water and soil science, provides design professionals with the knowledge and information needed to facilitate, improve, and maximize stormwater infiltration effectively. The course also discusses the use of Low Impact Development techniques and examines numerous case studies.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to understand the science and benefits of stormwater infiltration, such as reduced stormwater volume and peak flow and improved stormwater quality, as well as NPDES and state stormwater management requirements.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to understand soil and water science, including the types of soils, soil characteristics, impact of water on soils, and how water moves through soils.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to define and measure stormwater infiltration, utilize infiltration surfaces, and select appropriate soils, plants and materials.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to improve infiltration with Low Impact Development techniques, including bio-retention cells, pervious pavements, vegetated filter strips, wetlands and reuse.

Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to analyze stormwater infiltration case studies to determine appropriate and effective techniques.
