All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited. 

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 2.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Lee J. Walston Jr.

Ecologist, Argonne National Laboratory

Mr. Walston is head of the Ecology, Natural Resources, and Managed Systems Department within the Environmental Science Division. He has over a decade of experience in efforts to better understand and minimize the ecological impacts of solar energy. For the past five years Mr. Walston has supported DOE-funded projects to evaluate the ecological and ecosystem service opportunities of solar energy dual land use practices. He has also served on several renewable energy advisory boards and working groups such as the Renewable Energy Working Group for The Wildlife Society. Mr. Walston has a B.S. degree in Zoology from Southern Illinois University and an M.S. degree in Biology from Eastern Illinois University.

Course Title: Ecological Compatibility of Solar Energy Development

Delivery Method: Live Online 

Course Description: This two-hour course investigates ecological compatibility with solar energy developments, exploring strategies to balance renewable energy production with environmental preservation. The course explores the role of solar energy in decarbonization efforts, challenges associated with solar installations, and opportunities in agrivoltaics and ecovoltaics. The course also examines habitat-friendly solar practices, regional guidelines in the midwest, and research on biodiversity responses to ecovoltaic designs.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to analyze the role of solar energy in national energy and decarbonization initiatives and its environmental challenges.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to evaluate agrivoltaic and ecovoltaic strategies for improving the ecological compatibility of solar energy developments.
