This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 5.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in California. This course may also qualify for 5.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 5.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in jurisdictions that require continuing education; please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.
This course is designed to satisfy the California architect continuing education requirement on disability access requirements. The California Architects Board does not have the authority to approve course providers or courses.
The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 5.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.
The Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System has approved this course for 5.0 HSW PDHs. Only full participation is reportable to the LA CES.
The International Code Council has approved this event for .5 CEUs in the specialty area of Accessibility (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

With over 20 years of experience in accessible design, he is a Certified Access Specialist under the auspices of the California Division of the State Architect. Mr. Mattera reviews provide existing facilities in California with special protections from litigation over ADA compliance issues. The firm is available nationwide to create customized plans tailored to each individual client, based on both the ADA and local accessibility codes.

Course Description: This five-hour course explores the design and implementation of accessible facilities and pedestrian planning under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the California Building Code (CBC), and the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG). Through an in-depth examination of standards and guidelines, the course will focus on the knowledge needed to create pedestrian environments that are both compliant and accessible to all users.

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify the key definitions, standards, and guidelines related to public rights-of-way under ADA, IBC, and PROWAG.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to explain the requirements for providing accessible pedestrian access routes, including scoping for PROWAG and considerations for various surfaces and obstructions.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to explore the design and implementation of accessible pedestrian street crossings, parking, and transit stops , ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify design considerations for shared use paths, balancing the needs of pedestrians and bicyclists.
