Dr. Stephen J. Souza, Ph.D.

Owner of Clean Waters Consulting, LLC in New Jersey

Dr. Stephen J. Souza has over 35 years of professional expertise in the management and restoration of water resources. This includes the design and application of a wide array of green infrastructure stormwater management techniques. Dr. Souza received his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (1974), his M.S. from Rutgers University (1976), and his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut (1981). He is the founding partner of Princeton Hydro, serving as the company’s president until his retirement in 2018. Dr. Souza is an instructor and course coordinator for the Rutgers NJAES Office of Continuing Professional Education as well as for Continuing Professional Education Services, LLC. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Temple University (Department of Landscape and Horticulture – Tyler School of Art and Agriculture).

Course Title: Design, Ecology and Maintenance of Ponds

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This six-hour course examines the science, design and maintenance of ponds. The course explains the benefits and functions of ponds, discusses the siting, design and construction, and describes the various maintenance issues that may arise and how to handle them. Specifically, the course provides strategies for controlling invasive and/or problematic weeds and algae. The course will also demonstrate proper aquascaping and pond aeration.
