Course Description: This course examines how to establish a buildings classification based on its intended use and occupancy. Classification and use at any given time determines which which codes and requirements apply to the building.

Learners will be able to determine a structure’s occupancy and special uses for classification purposes.

Learners will be able to assess a structure’s fire-resistance-rated construction as determined by it classification and occupancy.

Learners will be able to discuss construction type of classification, including the new mass timber construction.
