Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information
This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in most states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.
The Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 HSW PDHs. Only full participation is reportable to the LA CES.
Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Colby J. Fangman, PLA, NGICP
Park Planner III with the Parks and Recreation City of Des MoinesMr. Fangman is a native Iowan and a lifelong land and water trail user and advocate. He has worked in the public parks, trails, and natural resources sector for the entirety of his professional career. At the City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department, Colby is a Park Planner III, Professional Landscape Architect, and capital construction project manager. He also provides departmental coordination and leadership over all things GIS, new multi-use trail development, capital construction grants program, and natural resources restoration.
Derek W. Hansen, ASLA
Park Planner II with the Parks and Recreation City of Des MoinesMr. Hansen is classically trained as a Landscape Architect and has been a Park Planner II with the City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department for over 5 years. His time with the City has provided him with experience and knowledge in trail systems, park design, splashpad and pool design, multi-million-dollar Capital Improvement Projects management, and system-wide analysis work. Mr. Hansen also provides departmental coordination and leadership over the existing multi-use trail development, Iowa ASLA ExCom Member at Large, ASLA representation for the Department, and is the staff liaison to multiple trail advocacy groups including the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Bike/PED Round Table.
Maci Nelson, ASLA
Project Manager Land Studio, Inc.Ms. Nelson is a neurodivergent landscape podcaster, writer, and designer from Cleveland, Ohio. She received her Master of Landscape Architecture from Kent State University in 2020 the same year she created The Landscape Nerd podcast to advocate for neuro-inclusive design and interdisciplinary approaches to community building. In her day-to-day role, she is a project manager for LAND Studio, connecting people through public art and space.
Robert Smail
NR Research Scientist Milwaukee Service Center Department of Natural ResourcesMr. Smail’s work often combines social, ecological, geological, and meteorological data to address resource management questions. His past research includes a range of topics such as agricultural water budgets, municipal water demand, and groundwater level variation. Mr. Smail current research topics include urban forest evapotranspiration, historical forest cover change, and measures of natural forest regeneration. He holds a B.A. in history from Carroll University, a M.S. in environmental management from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, and a Ph.D. in environment and resources from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Mr. Smail grew up in Milwaukee playing in whatever postcard patch of woods he could find. He now lives in Watertown with his dog, cat, daughters, spouse, bikes, and fly rods.
