Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for up to 6.0 PDHs, including 2.0 ethics hours, for professional engineers in Ohio. The Ohio Board of Engineers and Surveyors does not pre-approve continuing education activities.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Speakers

Eric B. Kjellander

Partner, Benesch Friedlander Coplan and Aronoff in Columbus, Ohio

Mr. Kjellander represents various entities involved in commercial and public construction projects, including owners, contractors, developers, lenders, surety companies, specialty trades, manufacturers, and subcontractors through all aspects of construction law including mediation, arbitration, and litigation. Mr. Kjellander handles breach of contract claims; extra work claims; construction defect claims; schedule disputes; payment/performance bond claims; mechanic’s liens; indemnity actions; payment disputes; prompt pay disputes; prevailing wage issues; design defects; differing site conditions; claim development and defense; bid protests; delay and acceleration claims; and other construction related claims. His experience also includes representing sureties in multi-project defaults, including the investigation and defense of performance and payment bond claims on private and public projects, negotiation of takeover, tender and completion agreements, and performance of completion work. Mr. Kjellander is a frequent writer and speaker on a number of construction related topics. He currently serves as the Chair of the Construction Law Committee for the Columbus Bar Association. 

Jesse Lipcius

Attorney with Ulmer & Berne LLP in Cincinnati

Mr. Lipcius practices in construction, construction litigation, litigation, real estate, business, complex business litigation, consumer and commercial litigation, employment and labor law and green business practice. Mr. Lipcius received his undergraduate degree from George Mason University and a J.D. degree from the University of Dayton School of Law.

Dr. Michael Liptak, PhD

Senior Ecologist at EnviroScience, Inc.

Dr. Liptak specializes in wetland ecology, wetland restoration, and mitigation wetland design. Dr. Liptak earned a B.S. in Biology at the University of Toledo and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science at Ohio State University under the noted wetland ecologist Dr. William Mitsch. He has over 25 years of experience in wetlands research and consulting and is a Certified Senior Ecologist (Ecological Society of America). His primary responsibilities at EnviroScience Inc. include wetland mitigation planning, wetland assessments and delineations, technical report preparation, and permitting. Dr. Liptak is a member of the Society of Wetlands Scientists and the Ecological Society of America, and regularly gives seminars on wetland issues and regulations. 

Matthew J. Schonauer

Attorney with Ulmer & Berne LLP in Cincinnati.

Mr. Schonauer’s practice focuses on intellectual property prosecution. He has a variety of experience with federal trademark and copyright registration; patent prosecution; patent, trademark and copyright infringement litigation; trademark licensing; UDRP domain name disputes; and the representation of clients in Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) proceedings. His practice includes the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications involving mechanical, electrical, aviation device, medical device, food and beverage preparation, business method, artificial intelligence, and software inventions. He also counsels clients on nationwide trademark licensing programs, branding strategies, Amazon marketplace disputes and brand protection, and international intellectual property portfolio protection. Prior to obtaining his law degree, Mr. Schonauer gained engineering and technical experience while working in the printed circuit board, quality control, network consulting, software development, and mechanical product design industries.

Jeremy S. Young

Shareholder in the law firm of Roetzel & Andress, in Columbus

Mr. Young’s statewide practice is based out of the Columbus office. A member of the firm’s Business Litigation Group, Mr. Young has a broad litigation background, with expertise litigating all manner of business, contract, commercial, corporate, shareholder, securities, and trust/fiduciary issues and disputes. He focuses his practice primarily on real estate-related issues and disputes, particularly those involving easements and eminent domain. Mr. Young helps utility and energy companies looking to expand their infrastructure obtain the necessary property rights with a minimum of expense and delay. He also defends such property rights in disputes with property owners. Additionally, Mr. Young defends businesses affected by road construction projects on a regional and national basis.
