Continuing Education Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.5 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.5 continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow non-HSW coursework. *This course is not approved in New York and states which require HSW coursework; please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Neil Opfer

Associate Professor with the University of Nevada Las Vegas Civil and Environment Engineering and Construction Department

Professor Opfer teaches coursework in construction management, cost control, cost estimating, structural design, and facility systems. He is also an industry consultant on design and construction issues, construction safety/defects, methods/materials, production, and cost management issues. He earned a B.S. degree in Building Theory, cum laude, a B.A. degree in Business, cum laude, and a B.A. degree in Economics, cum laude, all from Washington State University. Subsequently he earned his M.S. degree in Management (MBA) from Purdue University and his P.D. degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also holds estimating-related certifications as a Certifed Estimating Professional (CEP), Certifed Cost Professional (CCP), Certifed Professional Cconstructor (CPC), and he is a licensed general contractor in Nevada.

Course Title:  Construction Cost Estimating

Delivery Method: Live Online 

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course examines the different types of cost estimates, estimating resources and processes, estimating labor/equipment/overhead/profit, estimating construction materials and services, estimating mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems, and estimating software.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to differentiate types of cost estimates (design, bid, and control) and be able to determine whish is appropriate for the project and project owner.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to assist in estimating labor, equipment, overhead and profit for construction projects.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to assist in estimating construction materials for earthwork, pavements, concrete/wood/steel structures, masonry, floors, roofing, interiors and exteriors.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to assist in estimating mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
