All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.
Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Information
This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Wisconsin.
Continuing education courses, providers and activities are subject to pre-approval for engineering credit in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services recognizes courses approved by the American Institute of Architects as a source of continuing education credit for Wisconsin architects.
The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 6.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.
The International Code Council has approved this event for .6 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232).
Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Chris Rute, AIA RIBA
Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee School of Architecture & Urban Planning in Milwaukee, WIMr. Rute is a licensed Wisconsin architect with extensive experience in construction, design, and regulatory aspects of the built environment. Beginning his journey with exposure to the construction industry, he earned an architectural degree and worked across traditional architectural offices, design/build firms, and corporate settings acquiring experience with many aspects of the profession. Mr. Rute later served as a plan examiner and Manager of the City of Milwaukee Development Center for over 25 years as a code official, collaborating with colleagues at various government levels to adopt, administer, and apply building codes and standards to many and varied building types. Now a consultant, he advises architects, developers, and building & business owners on building and zoning codes and assists with navigating the whitewater of the entitlement process for a variety of development projects. Mr. Rute provides code tutorials to design professionals and is an adjunct professor teaching building codes to architecture students at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee School of Architecture & Urban Planning. He also actively participates in code development sitting on several committees of the International Code Council and the American Institute of Architects Codes & Standards Committee. Mr. Rute is a passionate proponent of preservation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.

Course Title: Complying with the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code

Course Description: This six-hour course examines the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code and its relationship to the 2021 International Building Code, focusing on key provisions that affect commercial building design and construction. The course reviews occupancy classifications, building height and area limitations, construction types, fire protection systems, means of egress, and accessibility requirements.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain the development and adoption of the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code and identify major occupancy classifications under Chapter 3.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to analyze building height and area limitations and select appropriate construction types in accordance with Chapters 5 and 6.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to apply requirements for passive and active fire protection systems, including fire and smoke protection features under Chapters 7 and 9.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to evaluate egress systems and accessible routes, entrances, and facilities to support compliant commercial building design under Chapters 10 and 11.
