Course Description: This seven-hour course informs design professionals on the history, development, and general administration of the Texas Energy Code, discusses the basics of energy efficiency, explores code compliance alternatives, analyzes residential energy efficiency strategies, evaluates heating, cooling, electrical and lighting systems, and goes beyond the current code requirements in Texas.
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify and discuss the history, development and general administration of the Texas Energy Code, as well as the scope, requirements, amendments, and standards. Development of Chapter 11 of the International Residential Code 2015 is also discussed.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to understand the basics of residential energy efficiency, including relevant definitions, climate zones, materials, systems and equipment, and recognize code compliance alternatives.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to increase residential energy efficiency through an improved thermal envelope; insulation and fenestration requirements, R-values and U-factor alternatives, and energy modeling are of particular focus.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to evaluate HVAC systems, hot water systems, control systems, ductwork insulation and sealing, mechanical ventilation systems, power systems, and lighting systems.
