Complying with the Rhode Island Residential Code
Before undertaking any on-demand effort, you should review the rules of your licensing/certifying entity. It’s your responsibility to determine whether or not this on-demand course meets your continuing education requirements.
You must take and pass a quiz in order to receive credit. You can take the quiz as many times as needed and there is no time limit on the quiz. Once the quiz is completed, you will be asked to download your certificate.
Videos that qualify for AIA, LACES, ASLA, or CLARB credit will require an extra week for processing.

The video will have occasional question prompts that will not allow the video to progress unless they are answered. You will not be able to skip forward while watching the video.

HalfMoon will mail these materials via USPS. Please allow 2 weeks from the date of purchase to receive your product. If the live seminar is in the future, please allow 5 weeks from the date of the live seminar.

Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Rhode Island. Professionals seeking continuing education credit in other states may be able to claim the hours earned at this webinar. Refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Mr. McWhite is a graduate of Vincennes University. He has served as an inspector and plans examiner in Massachusetts, Georgia, Virginia, and Indiana. He has served on the Massachusetts Construction Supervisor Licensing exam rewriting committee to help transition the exam from the 2009 to the 2015 International Codes, as a member of the International Code Council’s IPMC / IZC Code Development Committee, and as member of the ICC Building Membership Council. Mr. McWhite has earned a combined 21 Certifications from SBCCI (Legacy Code) and ICC including Housing Code Official, Building Code Specialist, Plumbing Code Specialist, Certified Building Official, and is currently 2 certifications away from Master Code Professional.

Course Description: This course explores the development, adoption and enforcement of the 2018 International Residential Code by Rhode Island. The primary focus of the course is on chapters 2-11 for building planning, shell construction and energy efficiency. The course also highlights relevant code provisions for mechanical, fuel, plumbing, and electrical systems.
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explore the history, development, adoption, enforcement and future of the International Residential Code 2018 by Rhode Island, as well as the Rhode Island code amendments.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to identify and comply with the Rhode Island residential code requirements for ceiling heights, dwelling unit separations, garage separations, seismic provisions, and snow loads.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to identify and comply with the Rhode Island residential code requirements for foundations, walls, wall coverings, roof assemblies, accessibility and drainage.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to identify and comply with the Rhode Island residential code requirements for energy efficiency, roof/ceiling construction, story height, live loads, fire protection, ingress and egress.
