Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Building & Zoning Director for Village of Swansea, Illinois

Joseph Iliff has been a building official, building inspector, and city planner for more than 25 years, serving cities in Indiana, Texas, Missouri, and Illinois. He earned an undergraduate degree in Urban Planning and Development from Ball State University. He holds certifications as a residential building inspector, building official, city planner, and floodplain manager. He has taught classes on the residential, building, and property maintenance codes with a focus on preparing students for certification exams and effective administration.

Course Title: Complying With the International Existing Building Code

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This 7-hour course is intended to assist design professionals with complying with the 2021 International Existing Building Code. The course begins with a discussion on code adoption, highlights, amendments and anticipated developments before focusing on the code itself. The majority of the course is a close analysis of chapters 1-14 of the 2021 code.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to evaluate the International Existing Building Code adoption by state and local government, the highlights and amendments of the 2021 code, and anticipated developments for the 2024 code.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to review chapters 4-6 on repairs, prescriptive compliance method, and classification of work.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to review chapter 10 on change of occupancy classifications, means of egress, and code compliance for building elements.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to review chapters 12-14 on historic buildings, performance compliance method and moved or relocated buildings.
