All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Speakers

John Swanson, CFPS

Mr. Swanson currently serves as National Fire Sprinkler Association’s (NFSA’s) codes and standards specialist. In this role he provides training and education and represents NFSA on code development and technical committees. Prior to joining NFSA, he spent 20 years as a Deputy State Fire Marshal-Inspector/Plan Reviewer with the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division and served eight years as a firefighter with the City of Lakeville, MN. Mr. Swanson currently serves as a principal member of the NFPA 72 – National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code Technical Committee and is a past member of the International Building Code (IBC) Fire Safety Committee and the International Fire Code (IFC) Interpretation Committee. He has served as a subject matter expert for the International Code Council (ICC) as an instructor and assisted with the development of ICC exam content. From 2013-2017, Mr. Swanson served as a fire service representative appointed by Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton to the Minnesota Board of Architecture and Engineering.

Course Title: Complying with NFPA 72, Fire Alarm and Signaling Code 2022

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This six-hour course analyzes select chapters of NFPA 72 focusing on the design fundamentals, circuits, pathways, appliances, installation, inspection, maintenance, emergency controls and communications of fire alarm and signaling systems. Specifically, the course discusses chapters 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 18, 21, 23, 24 and 26.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to analyze fire alarm system fundamentals related to equipment, design and installation, personnel qualifications, power supplies, detection, signaling, responses, trouble signals, and impairments.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to evaluate code-compliant circuitry and pathways, monitory integrity and performance, and provide proper maintenance.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to discuss installation practices for fire detection and notification systems, including proper equipment and software.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to examine notification appliances for their audible, visual, and tactile characteristics.
