All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 6.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Engineer with SBSA Inc.

Mr. Fronapfel’s experience in design, analysis, and forensic review of the soil/structure interaction on hundreds of projects and thousands of structures provides insightful, analytical, and real world expertise. His education and experience includes geo-hydrology, hydrology, hydraulics, civil engineering, structural engineering, and building systems including thermal protection, ventilation of confined spaces, waterproofing, roofing, and cladding for residential, commercial, education, and industrial settings. He is licensed to practice engineering in 39 states and Puerto Rico. In addition to engineering, his background includes cost consulting, contract resolution, project scheduling, consulting, and construction project issues. Mr. Fronapfel has served for over 18 years as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver, Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management and now with the College of Contract Management, UK, teaching construction systems, LEED, mechanical-electrical plumbing, construction estimating, project scheduling, and the Diplomate in Structural Forensic Engineering. He has been qualified as an expert in these fields in over 100 trials in District and Federal Courts providing over 700 depositions and hundreds of arbitrations. He has been engaged in thousands of cases including being used as an umpire and expert in mediations.

 

Christina Jackson, PMO. CZA

Codes Compliance Inspector III

Ms. Jackson began her code career in Ohio back in 2005, so her code experience spans over 20 years. Ms. Jackson currently works for the City of Newport News and is a Certified Building Maintenance Official in Virginia. She is a member of the Virginia Building Code Official Association (VBCOA) and serves as VBCOA Education Chair which provides training for all 8 regions within Virginia and its stakeholders. As the VBCOA Education Chair, Ms. Jackson is always making connections with industry and profession colleagues to offer training locally and on a state level. As of September 2015, she is a founding board member of the Women in Code Enforcement and Development Virginia chapter and has been instrumental in getting the word out about women getting recognized for their contributions to building codes and inspections. Currently Ms. Jackson is the WICED of VA President since 2019. Ms. Jackson is also a member of the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials where she is a Certified Zoning Administrator. In August 2018, Ms. Jackson was appointed by Governor Ralph Northam to the State Technical Review Board, becoming the first African American female to serve in this capacity. Ms. Jackson also sits on the Permit Tech Nation Board of Directors. In 2017, she has been an instructor at Tidewater Community College, teaching the International Residential Code BLD 115. Ms. Jackson is a naval spouse. She has served as Navy Ombudsman and is a mother of three. 

Eldridge F. Reynard

Eldridge F. Reynard has over 5 years of experienced teaching and currently holds certifications as a Building Plan Examiner, Residential Building Inspector and Commercial Plumbing Inspector through ICC. Mr. Reynard also instructs on the residential plan review, commercial plan review and commercial building inspections.

Course Title: Commercial and High-End Residential Deck Design and Construction

Course Description: This six-hour course is intended to assist learners in designing safe, code-compliant exterior decks. The course covers the history of and applications for exterior decks, structural requirements for decks, deck safety and accessibility, adding fixtures and structures, and the materials, components and sustainability.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to review structural requirements for decks, including structural loads and egress requirements, as prescribed by the International Building Code, the International Residential Code, and relevant accessibility standards.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to discuss deck safety and accessibility issues, including changes in elevation, stairs, ramps, railings and handrails.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to assess different fixtures and structures and how they are added to decks, including shade, shelter enclosures, built-in seating, exterior heating and cooling, sound and lighting.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to review the materials, components and sustainability of decks, including finishes and re-used materials.
