Webinar Instructions

All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Continuing Education Credit Information

These webinars are open to the public and are each designed to qualify for 2.0 PDHs for professional engineers, 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

HalfMoon Education is an approved continuing education sponsor for engineers in Florida (Provider No. 0004647), Indiana (License No. CE21700059), Maryland, New Jersey (Approval No. 24GP00000700) and North Carolina (S-0130). HalfMoon Education is deemed an approved continuing education sponsor for New York engineers, architects, and landscape architects via its registration with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System and the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (Regulations of the Commissioner §68.14(i)(2), §69.6(i)(2) and §79-1.5(i)(2)). Other states do not preapprove continuing education providers or courses.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved each of these courses for 2.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

The Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System has approved each course for 2.0 HSW PDHs. Only full participation is reportable to the LA CES.

This Association of State Floodplain Managers has approved each course for 2.0 CECs for floodplain managers.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinars for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Speakers

Sean James, NPD, FLP

Master Gardener, Owner of ‘Sean James Consulting & Design’.

Named by Landscape Ontario as 2020 and 2021’s Garden Communicator of the Year, gardening has been Mr. James’ hobby and profession for over 40 years. A graduate of Niagara Parks School of  Horticulture, a Master Gardener, writer, and teacher, he focuses on eco-gardening techniques, which makes sense since he grew up surrounded by nature. He has spoken from the Maritimes to Seattle and landscaped from Nova Scotia to California. Mr. James has had the honor to be part of creating the Ontario Landscape Tree Planting Guide, the Grow-Me-Instead guide, the Ontario Horticultural Apprenticeship Curriculum and the national Red Seal Occupational Standard, and the Master Gardeners Reference Manual. He has participated in chairing the Environmental Stewardship Committee for Landscape Ontario, the Environmental Committee for the Perennial Plant Association, moderating the Master Gardeners of Ontario Facebook page, judging the All-American Selections garden competition and Hamilton’s Monarch Awards. Mr. James has been the Ontario spokesperson for Garden Days Canada and he has appeared on many radio shows and on television and has instructed at the college level for 17 years. He owns ‘Sean James Consulting & Design’.

Course Title: Choosing Plants and Specifics of Planting

Course Description: This course is intended to assist design professionals with choosing and planting appropriate grasses, shrubs, flowers and other plants in rain gardens. This course is focused on maximizing the effectiveness and aesthetic beauty of rain gardens through plant selection.

Learners will be able to discuss how plants can be used to maximize the effectiveness and beauty of rain gardens.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to explain the importance of the aesthetic beauty of rain gardens, particularly how it impacts public acceptance.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to adopt strategies of planting and mulching in rain gardens and discuss proper and detailed techniques.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to explain how Low Impact Development such as rain gardens can be used to promote biodiversity through plant selection.
