Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Illinois. 

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

The International Code Council has approved HalfMoon Education as a Preferred Provider of continuing education (No. 1232). Course approval is pending in the specialty area of Building.

Christopher E. Chwedyk

AIA, CSI, Director, The Code Group, Burnham Nationwide, Inc., Chicago
Mr. Chwedyk is a licensed architect and chief code consultant and director of the licensed architectural subsidiary of Burnham that he assisted in founding in 2001. He was previously the principal of the Chicago office of a firm that specialized in life safety and fire protection engineering, and he has been a member of such prestigious architectural firms as Skidmore, Owings and Merrill; Bertrand Goldberg Associates; and Jack Train Associates. With over 40 years of experience in the profession, Mr. Chwedyk has concentrated on the technical requirements of building design and has managed the production of code-compliant construction documents for a wide variety of project types. Over the past two decades he has performed numerous code compliance plan reviews for the City of Chicago and other municipalities. He is also a certified building plans examiner through the International Code Council (ICC) and currently serves on the International Fire Code Action Committee. Mr. Chwedyk’s professional affiliations include the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and he is the 2018 chair of the National AIA Codes and Standards Committee.

Neha Patel

Associate AIA, Senior, Burnham Nationwide

Ms. Patel is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) Architecture program. Ms. Patel has been instrumental in the last eight years with playing a key role in building life safety compliance reviews and inspections as well as having developed a strong knowledge of local accessibility and rehabilitation code requirements.

Leah Riley

Ms. Riley has over 26 years of experience in interpreting and providing consulting services and has previously conducted seminars and workshops related to accessibility and building code compliance. She has gained recognition as an expert in Accessibility Code interpretation through her years of service, including her position at the City of Chicago Mayor’s Office for Peoples with Disabilities.  Ms. Riley is an ICC Accessibility Inspector/Examiner and her knowledge includes the Americans with Disabilities Act, the International Building Code and ANSI A117.1, 2003 and 2009 Standards, the Federal Fair Housing Amendments Act, Section 504 and the Uniform Federal Accessibility Code as well as multiple state and local building and accessibility codes.  She conducts third-party municipal accessibility plan reviews and also serves on the Chicago Building Owners and Managers Association Codes Committee.

Course Title: Chicago Building Rehabilitation Code

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour course begins with a discussion on the development, adoption, amendments, and enforcement of the Chicago Building Rehabilitation Code before closely analyzing chapters 1-14. Topics of focus include definitions, provisions for compliance methods, repairs, alterations, changes of occupancy, means of egress, additions and more.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to discuss the history and development of the International Existing Building Code, and the adoption, amendment and enforcement of the code in Chicago.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to identify and comply alteration requirements for level 1, 2, and 3 alterations found in chapters 7-9 of the code

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to identify and comply with the change of occupancy and means of egress requirements found in chapter 10 of the code.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to locate and comply with chapters 12-14 of the code that govern historic buildings and moved/relocated buildings.
