All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

The International Code Council has approved this event for .7 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Christopher E. Chwedyk, AIA, CSI

Director of The Code Group, Burnham Nationwide, Inc., Chicago, IL

Mr. Chwedyk is a licensed architect and chief code consultant and director of the licensed architectural subsidiary of Burnham that he assisted in founding in 2001. He was previously the principal of the Chicago office of a firm that specialized in life safety and fire protection engineering, and he has been a member of such prestigious architectural firms as Skidmore, Owings and Merrill; Bertrand Goldberg Associates; and Jack Train Associates. With over 40 years of experience in the profession, Mr. Chwedyk has concentrated on the technical requirements of building design and has managed the production of code-compliant construction documents for a wide variety of project types. Over the past two decades he has performed numerous code compliance plan reviews for the City of Chicago and other municipalities. Mr. Chwedyk is also a certified building plans examiner through the International Code Council (ICC) and currently serves on the International Fire Code Action Committee. His professional affiliations include the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and he is the 2018 chair of the National AIA Codes and Standards Committee.

Course Title: Chicago Building Code

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour course begins with a discussion on the development, terminology, enforcement and changes of the 2018 International Building Code and its adoption in Chicago, before closely analyzing chapters 3-12, 14-16, and 27-29. The course will cover code-compliant fire protection, egress, accessibility, structural design, roofs, HVAC, MEP systems, and more.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the development of the 2018 International Building Code, explain the code adoption and amendment processes in Chicago, and explore the 2018 Chicago amendments.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze chapters 6-9 of the code and utilize code-compliant life safety systems and fire and smoke protection features.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to examine chapters 10-11 of the code to incorporate accessible facilities, routes, entrances and exits in their designs.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to adopt code-compliant construction techniques and use of specific materials, including concrete, masonry, wood, aluminum, steel and glass.

Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to explore chapters 27-29 of the IBC and discuss code-compliant electrical, mechanical and plumbing system design.
