This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 2.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 2.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Mr. Burlew joined Walker Consultants’ New York office in 2025 as a Building Envelope Consultant, bringing over 19 years of experience in the architectural and project management sectors. Throughout this time, Mr. Burlew has gained invaluable expertise in both field and office settings. Mr. Burlew is well-versed in architectural design, exterior envelope construction, fenestration systems, and fabrication processes. He has extensive experience in all phases of construction from initial design through construction administration.

Course Title: Building Envelope Design: Exterior Cladding Options for Residential and Small Commercial Buildings

Course Description: This two-hour course examines exterior cladding options for residential and small commercial buildings, emphasizing system performance and material selection. The program explores key evaluation metrics—such as thermal resistance, fire safety, moisture control, acoustics, and sustainability—alongside cost-benefit comparisons of common cladding materials.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to identify key performance metrics for exterior cladding systems, including fire safety, acoustic control, moisture resistance, and thermal performance.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to evaluate sustainability factors related to various cladding materials.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to compare material options for exterior cladding based on initial cost, performance characteristics, and durability.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to select appropriate cladding systems for specific building types and climates based on performance requirements and design considerations.
