Speakers
Whitney Griffin
Whitney Griffin, PhD, Landscape Manager
Ms. Griffin grew up in rural Alabama and fell in love with the outdoors. In high school she decided she wanted to be a landscape designer, specifically for high-end residential clients. As she completed her B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture at Auburn University in 2008, the residential construction (and landscape design!) markets were gutted in the recession, and she decided if she couldn’t practice landscape design, she would teach it. She stayed at Auburn to earn her M.S. in Ornamental Horticulture in 2010 and completed her doctorate in Plant Sciences at the University of Maryland 2014. Whilewaiting for the perfect faculty position, she worked as the Director of Stewardship at Furbish, a Baltimore firm specializing in the design, construction, and maintenance of green roofs and living walls. She joined the faculty at Texas A&M in 2015, teaching all courses related to hand and computer drafting, design, estimating, construction, and maintenance. In 2019 she was offered the opportunity to join the team at Southern Landscape in Austin, Texas, working with high-end residential landscape design/build clients.
