All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Arkansas. This course may qualify for credits in additional states; please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility. 

This course is not subject to pre-approval by the Arkansas State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors. The Board has final authority with respect to acceptance of credits. 

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES. The Arkansas State Board of Architects, Landscape Architects and Interior Designers accepts contact hours listed by the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Services (AIA/CES). 

The International Code Council has approved this event for .7 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232). 

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Gary Meadows

City of Ward

Mr. Meadows recently retired from more than 40 years in the fire service. During his time in the fire service, he spent more than 21 years with the Cabot Fire Department in Cabot, Arkansas, a suburb of Little Rock. During his career with the fire department, he served as Firefighter, Fire Marshal and more than 10 years as Fire Chief which included plan reviews, building inspection and fire/building code enforcement. In addition, Mr. Meadows has also spent more than 19 years as a statewide instructor with the Arkansas Fire Training Academy, a division of Southern Arkansas University Tech, teaching fire and building codes to fire and building officials throughout the state. He has simultaneously served as a city planner for more than 20 years by serving as Vice Chairman of the Cabot Planning Commission and Chairman of Ward Planning Commission. Mr. Meadows is currently employed by the City of Ward, in Central Arkansas, as the Building Inspector and Chief Building Official. He is certified through the International Fire Service Accreditation Council as an Inspector l, ll, and lll. He is currently licensed and/or certified as a municipal plumbing inspector, HVAC inspector and electrical Inspector through the State of Arkansas. Mr. Meadows attended the University of Central Arkansas before graduating with honors with a Fire Science Degree through Black River Technical College. In his retirement, He continues to teach and work in fire and building code education and enforcement. Mr. Meadows was recently inducted into the Arkansas State Firefighter Hall of Fame.

Course Title: Arkansas State Building Code

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This seven-hour course begins with a discussion on the development, terminology, enforcement and changes of the 2021 International Building Code and focuses on its adoption in Arkansas by closely analyzing chapters 3-12 of the Arkansas Building Code. The course will cover code-compliant fire protection, egress, accessibility, occupancy classifications, and more.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the development of the International Building Code 2021, explain the code adoption and amendment processes in Arkansas, and explore the 2021 changes.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze chapters 6-9 of the code and utilize code-compliant life safety systems and fire and smoke protection features.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to reference chapters 10 and 11 in designing accessible routes, facilities, entrances and exits.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify impediments to egress, calculate occupant loads and consider the arrangement of exits to maximize efficiency san safety in egress.
