Continuing Education Credit Information
This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.5 CLE hours, including 1.0 ethics hour, for paralegals and legal paraprofessionals. Paralegal certification is not required to participate in this course.
This webinar has been approved by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) for 7.5 total CLE credits which includes 6.5 general CLE credits and 1.0 ethics CLE credit.
The State Bar of Arizona does not approve or accredit CLE providers or individual programs.
Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Paralegal Yavapai County Public Defender’s OfficeMs. Mayer is an Advanced Certified Paralegal in Trial Practice and Criminal Litigation with over 30 years’ experience in the legal field. She works for the Yavapai County Public Defender’s Office in Arizona. Ms. Mayer is a member of NALA and serves on NALA’s Professional Development Committee. She enjoys writing articles that relate to the paralegal field and help paralegals obtain information to enrich their professional and personal wellbeing. In her free time, Ms. Mayer enjoys spending time with her husband and son, cooking, volunteering, and watching sports.
Robert J. McWhirter
Certified Specialist in Criminal Law with Law Offices of Robert J. McWhirterMr. McWhirter has successfully tried over 100 criminal trials in Federal, state, and city courts. He is a nationally and internationally known speaker and author on trial advocacy, immigration law, and the history of the bill of rights. Mr. McWhirter is a frequent guest on Arizona Horizon and KJZZ as a Constitutional expert and historian. He is a Certified Specialist in Criminal Law, and for over six years, his peers have elected him to serve on the Arizona State Bar Board of Governors. Mr. McWhirter has published extensively the following:

Since 2009, Mr. McWhirter has been named a Southwest Super Lawyer and is a 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient from Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. He is a 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient from the Barrett Honors College. Mr. McWhirter received the Frank X. Gordon Award for Excellence in the Practice of Law, Mohave County Bar Association in 2013 and the Saint Thomas More Award, Saint Thomas More Society in 2010. He has been a president of Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice. From March 2014 until July 2016, Mr. McWhirter was the supervising criminal attorney at the ASU Alumni Law Group, a teaching law firm serving underserved clients. He continues his private practice in criminal defense, civil rights, and testifies and provides expert advice on Immigration Consequences of Criminal Conviction and citizenship issues.
Rachel Moss, Esq.
Criminal Defense Attorney with Attorneys for FreedomMs. Moss earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from the James Madison University Honors College in 2018. In 2021, she graduated from the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law with a Juris Doctorate. Ms. Moss joined Attorneys for Freedom in 2020 as a law clerk, where she assisted the firm’s attorneys with criminal cases and postconviction relief matters. In January 2022, she was licensed as an attorney in the State of Arizona and rejoined the firm as a criminal defense attorney. Ms. Moss is proud to have defended clients in state misdemeanor and felony cases, as well as helped clients regain their civil rights in court.
Joseph P. St. Louis
President and Criminal Defense Attorney with Nesci & St. LouisNesci & St. Louis, a DUI and Criminal Defense Law Firm. Mr. St. Louis is a Regent of the National College for DUI Defense. He is certified as a specialist in both criminal law (by the Arizona State Bar) and in DUI defense (by the National College for DUI Defense). Mr. St. Louis is a litigator, with a heavy pretrial motion and jury trial practice, defending people on charges involving everything but Rock n’ Roll – crimes involving alcohol, drugs, sex and violence. He likes to hear himself talk, and his vanity is easily appealed to, so he regularly speaks to State defense and State Bar groups, on a variety of topics. Mr. St. Louis has given presentations to groups in 19 states and has been voted a top 10 national speaker for his presentations for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, twice. His accomplishments include convincing judges to dismiss first degree murder charges in two separate cases and being one of four lawyers to convince a superior court judge to suppress the blood evidence in 11 consolidated felony cases. Recently, he was the primary writer on scientific issues in NCDD’s Amicus Brief filed in the United States Supreme Court case of Smith v. Arizona, No. 22-899, addressing surrogate analyst testimony. Mr. St. Louis greatest accomplishments, however, are convincing his wife Tania to stay with him for 27 years, his children Renee and Jack, and restraining himself from physically attacking a prosecutor or judge in 36 years of practice.
