Course Title: Architectural Acoustics – Design and Construction

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This course examines design and construction strategies and techniques used to control sound and to enhance sound quality in structures. It covers material selection and construction techniques for interior walls, exterior walls, floors, and ceilings.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to discuss the science of sound, including level of decibels (dB), frequency in Hertz, wavelength in feet, common descriptors, and response to sound: sound versus noice, speech and tones.

Learning Objective 2: Learner will be able to identify and describe factors that affect sound quality indoors, including reflection and absorption, HVAC systems and background noice, and design and construction materials.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able apply techniques for controlling sound transfer through interior walls, exterior walls, floors, ceilings, and they will be able to take measures to reduce noice from mechanical systems and using appropriate building maters and building design.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to provide accoustical comfort in structures with optimal audibility, intelligibility, and privacy; they will be able to evaluate appropriate electronical sound systems, and they will be able to distinguish the accoustic needs of residences, schools, healthcare facilities, and public gathering facilities.
