This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 6.5 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

While this course is designed to qualify for credit in all states, licensing boards have final authority with respect to acceptance of credits. We recommend reviewing the rules of your licensing board(s) before undertaking any continuing education activities.

Course Title:  Accessibility Essentials for Designers, Architects and Code Officials

Delivery Method: Live Online 

Course Description: This 6.5-hour course examines the history of accessibility requirements and provides an analysis of chapter 11 of the International Building Code and ANSI A117.1. The course dives into basic accessibility requirements, including accessible routes, entrances, parking, sidewalks and ramps. The course then address accessible restrooms, dwelling and sleeping units, special occupancies, recreational facilities and signage requirements.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to discuss the history and development of accessibility requirements and utilize chapter 11 of the International Building Code and ANSI A117.1 to determine what is and is not required to be accessible.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to identify the basic requirements for accessible routes and entrances, accessible and van accessible parking spaces, valet and loading zones, sidewalks and ramps.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to comply with requirements for accessible restrooms and drinking fountains, including fixture counts, dimensions and turning radius.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to differentiate between Type A and Type B dwelling units and evaluate accessibility requirements for special occupancies, recreational facilities and signage.
