All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.
Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Jason Scheurer
Building Scientist and Forensic Building Investigator with BEST Techs Contracting Design, in Garden Grove, CAMr. Scheurer has been in the construction industry for over 35 years and is a pioneer in the construction and management of environmentally responsible buildings. He has vast experience as a General Contractor, Project Manager, and Project Estimator, and has been in the energy efficiency field for over 20 years. Mr. Scheurer has built one of the first Net Zero Energy Homes (NZEH) in Downtown Huntington Beach, Orange County, California. This home was certified by Build It Green as a GreenPoint Rated home that achieved an astonishing 210 points. His mission is to first – “Do No Harm” and help teach and educate the green construction industry and the end consumer about the rights and wrongs of our existing building stock and how to make these buildings perform at their BEST by applying house-as-a-system, building science and energy efficient techniques through the standards established by Passive House Institute, Building Performance Institute, Build It Green and National Comfort Institute. Mr. Scheurer is a BPI-approved Super Proctor and holds numerous certifications from the Building Performance Institute, Build It Green, National Comfort Institute, and the Passive House Institute. As a Building Scientist, he takes his profession to heart and educates contractors and homeowners about energy efficiency in residential buildings across the nation. Mr. Scheurer works closely with architects, designers, and homeowners to translate high-performance design into real-world construction, bridging the gap between theory and execution. His work emphasizes durability, energy efficiency, and occupant health & safety—delivering homes that are built to perform and built to last at least 100 years.

Course Title: 2026 California Passive House Standard: Design and Construction

Course Description: This six-hour course examines the Passive House standard applied to residential and non-residential construction in California, covering its history, principles, and certification requirements. Instruction addresses building envelope performance, ventilation, HVAC, domestic hot water, and water conservation, in addition to indoor air quality, electrification, and the Phius certification process from registration through final documentation.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to explain the history and principles of the Passive House standard, including the roles of PHI and Phius, and compare Passive House performance requirements with conventional California energy code compliance.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to identify Phius CORE certification requirements for single-family, existing, and non-residential buildings.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to evaluate additional Passive House design considerations, including indoor air quality, electric vehicle charging, and combustion equipment electrification, within the California regulatory framework.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to navigate the Phius certification process, including project registration, design certification, final certification, and submissions.
