All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited. 

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 7.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in Ohio. The Ohio Board of Engineers and Surveyors do not pre-approve course providers or courses; the Ohio Architects Board recognizes courses approved by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as acceptable activities.

The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 7.0 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

The International Code Council has approved this event for .7 CEUs in the specialty area of Building (Preferred Provider No. 1232).

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the webinar for those who attend the entire course and score a minimum 80% on the quiz that follows the course (multiple attempts allowed).

Jerry Flanik

Project Engineer at Associated Consulting Solutions, Inc., in northeastern Ohio

Mr. Flanik is the president of Associated Consulting Solutions, Inc. (ACS) and a partner with F&B Engineering, Inc., in Cleveland, Ohio. ACS provides plan review services for building departments in Ohio and throughout the United States, pre- and post-design analysis services for architectural and engineering firms, and code consulting services. ACS is also an ICC Preferred Education Provider, providing education throughout the United States. F&B Engineering, Inc., provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and fire protection engineering services. Previously, Mr. Flanik served as the Chief Building Official for Lake County, Ohio for 16 years. Prior to working as a code official, he owned and operated a design-build contracting company. Additionally, Mr. Flanik is a long time UA member of Pipe Fitters Local Union #120 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr. Flanik holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University, as well as a degree in Civil Engineering Technology. Acquiring over 40 various certifications and licenses, he is also a ICC-Certified Master Code Professional (MCP), LEED Accredited Professional BD+C, and a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM). Mr. Flanik also gives back to the community as a 20-year adjunct faculty instructor at Lakeland College in the Civil and Electrical Engineering Departments.

Mr. Flanik is the author of the 2021 International Mechanical Code Essentials book published by International Code Council, and he is a professional consultant for government agencies and private corporations throughout the United States. Additionally, Mr. Flanik develops curriculum and teaches for the International Code Council throughout the world.

Course Title: 2024 Ohio Existing Building Code: Provisions and Practice

Course Description: This seven-hour course analyzes the 2024 Ohio Existing Building Code, providing specific focus on chapters 3-14 covering topics such as code-compliant repairs, alterations, changes of occupancy and additions.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to discuss the development of the 2021 International Existing Building Code (IEBC), its adoption and enforcement in Ohio, and Ohio amendments.

Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to describe how to change the occupancy classification of an existing building and assess the means of egress.

Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to differentiate between the three level of alterations and apply the requirements for building component replacement, space reconfiguration, and 50%+ area alterations.

Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to discuss the code requirements impacting historic buildings and buildings that have been moved or relocated.
