Chief Executive Officer, SBSA, LLC, A Charles Taylor CompanyMr. Fronapfel is the CEO and founder of SBSA which is now owned by Charles Taylor. The firm provides consulting regarding the construction, design, and quality assurance associated with new and existing structures. Mr. Fronapfel’s expertise includes geo-hydrology, hydrology, development, civil engineering, structural engineering, building envelope, commissioning, and the interdisciplinary-required practices in the behavior of foundations, substructures, superstructures, and building envelopes in the as-built environment.
Mr. Fronapfel provides consulting to designers, builders, developers, attorneys, and real estate professionals. For over 30 years, his work has included ground-up construction and post-construction evaluation of thousands of structures across the United States. Mr. Fronapfel is licensed in 39 states and Puerto Rico. The firm includes architects, engineers, construction managers, constructors, and reserve study specialists to allow the firm to provide the majority of consulting from in-house staff.
Mr. Fronapfel has been a distinguished lecturer for ASHRAE, is an adjunct professor at the University of Denver, Burns School, and a lecturer for the College of Contract Management in the United Kingdom. He also is a speaker for a number of organizations including Energy and Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA), the Department of Energy (DOE), the American Institute of Architects, Home Builders Association (HBA), International Code Council-Colorado, and others.
Mr. Fronapfel’s experience includes providing more than 700 depositions, hundreds of arbitrations, and more than 110 trial testimonies.
The materials provided herein are based on SBSA’s and Mr. Fronapfel’s experience in the observation, evaluation, analysis, and reconstruction of properties that have experienced undesired serviceability and performance results.

Course Description: This seven-hour course begins with a discussion on the development, adoption, terminology, enforcement and changes of the 2024 International Building Code, before closely analyzing chapters 3-12, 14-16, and 27-29. The course will cover code-compliant fire protection, egress, accessibility, structural design, roofs, HVAC, MEP systems, and more.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to discuss the development of the 2024 International Building Code, explain the code adoption and amendment processes, and explore the 2024 changes, such as new tornadic, seismic, rain and snow load changes.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze chapters 6-9 of the IBC and utilize code-compliant life safety systems and fire and smoke protection features.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to examine chapters 10-11 of the IBC to incorporate accessible facilities, routes, entrances and exits in their designs.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to adopt code-compliant construction techniques and use of specific materials, including concrete, masonry, wood, aluminum, steel and glass.
Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to explore chapters 27-29 of the IBC and discuss code-compliant electrical, mechanical and plumbing system design.
