Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 4.0 PDHs for professional engineers and 4.0 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in all states.

Building & Zoning Director for Village of Swansea, Illinois

Joseph Iliff has been a building official, building inspector, and city planner for more than 25 years, serving cities in Indiana, Texas, Missouri, and Illinois. He earned an undergraduate degree in Urban Planning and Development from Ball State University. He holds certifications as a residential building inspector, building official, city planner, and floodplain manager. He has taught classes on the residential, building, and property maintenance codes with a focus on preparing students for certification exams and effective administration.

Course Title: 2021 International Building Code: Special Uses and Mixed Uses

Course Description: This 4-hour course focuses on chapter 4 of the 2021 International Building Code: Special Detailed Requirements Based on Occupancy and Use. The course will provide a discussion on mixed-use buildings, the separation of mixed uses and design criteria for special uses and occupancies, including malls, high-rises, theaters and more.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to analyze and discuss design criteria for open and covered malls, high-rise buildings and atriums.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to analyze and discuss design criteria for motor vehicle buildings, theaters and amusement areas.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to analyze and discuss design criteria for storm shelters and buildings containing hazardous materials.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to determine when and where mixed uses are allowed and consider the separation of mixed uses.
