All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar is open to the public and is designed to qualify for 2.5 PDHs for professional engineers, 2.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects, and 2.5 HSW continuing education hours for landscape architects in all states that allow this learning method. Please refer to specific state rules to determine eligibility.

Steven Halcomb, P.E., G.E.

Devise Engineering

Mr. Halcomb has over 16 years of geotechnical earthquake engineering experience in Alaska and throughout the US. He is Principal Geotechnical Engineer with Devise Engineering in Anchorage, Alaska. Mr. Halcomb regularly oversees geotechnical efforts on projects ranging from several hundred thousand to multi-million dollars in various environments including the arctic, subarctic, and marine. He has experience in shallow and deep foundation design, retaining walls, slope stability, pavements, excavations, and regularly aids during construction and performs various inspections. Mr. Halcomb has worked in ideal and adverse conditions including liquefiable and expansive soils and frozen ground requiring extensive thermal modeling. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Geo-Institute. Mr. Halcomb earned his B.S., M.C.E., M.S. in Arctic Engineering, and an Earthquake graduate certificate all from the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Course Title: Retaining Wall Tieback Design

Course Description: This 2.5-hour course focuses on the types, placement, capacity, construction, monitoring and load testing of three general types of tiebacks for retaining walls: deadman, helical and grouted.

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify different types of retaining walls and understand how to compute lateral earth pressures.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to determine the capacity of deadman tiebacks, consider optimal placement and discuss construction techniques.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to determine the capacity of helical tiebacks, consider optimal sizes and embedments and discuss construction techniques and load testing.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to determine the capacity of grouted tiebacks, consider different types and placement, and discuss construction techniques and load testing.
