Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.
Certificates of completion can be downloaded in PDF form upon passing a short quiz. A link to the quiz will be sent to each qualifying attendee immediately after the webinar. The certificate can be downloaded from the Results page of the quiz upon scoring 80% or higher.

Continuing Education Credit Information
This seminar and webcast are open to the public and are designed to qualify for 6.5 PDHs for professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours for licensed architects in New York.
HalfMoon Education is deemed an approved continuing education sponsor for New York engineers and architects via its registration with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System (Regulations of the Commissioner §68.14(i)(2) and §69.6(i)(2)).
The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System has approved this course for 6.5 HSW LUs (Sponsor No. J885). Only full participation is reportable to the AIA/CES.

Speakers
Gregory C. Moormann
Gregory C. Moormann, PE, RA, earned a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is dually a licensed Registered Architect and a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and other states and holds multiple professional affiliations and certifications. He has spent a large portion of his 18+ year career involved in heavy construction and new building development in the New York City market under various capacities of geotechnical, excavations, demolition, remediation, and structural design works. Notable projects include MoMa Tower Verre; 432 Park Avenue; World Trade Center Towers 2, 3 & 4; 220 Central Park; Nordstrom Tower; and currently under construction 740 8th Avenue. Mr. Moormann has been directly involved with over 750 construction projects in the tri-state region. Additionally, he has overseen held a technical director position in multiple engineering companies overseeing all Special Inspection operations. Mr. Moormann is co-owner and principal of Ancora Engineering based out of mid-town Manhattan. Mr. Moormann also has his own private architecture and engineering practice focused on the local market around his New Jersey home.

Course Title: Special Inspection Requirements under 2020 NY State Building Code & 2022 NY City Building Code

Course Description: This course will begin by providing learners with a history and overview of special inspections in New York, including an analysis of chapter 17 of both the state and city building codes. The course will then explain soil, foundation, concrete, masonry, and steel inspections. The second half of the course focuses on the demolition and structural stability of existing buildings, wind and seismic design, exterior insulation, finishes and fire resistance, material standards and load tests, non-conformances, final reports and ethical issues.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1: Learners will be able to reference and utilize chapter 17 of the 2020 Building Code of New York State, chapter 17 of the Building Code of New York City, and referenced standards.
Learning Objective 2: Learners will be able to discuss concrete reinforcement, placement, testing, inspection, curing (in both hot and cold weather), and the benefits and applications of pre-stressed and precast concrete.
Learning Objective 3: Learners will be able to analyze the design strength of materials, identify alternative test procedures, and perform in-situ load tests and pre-construction load tests.
Learning Objective 4: Learners will be able to explain the inspector’s authority and job role, resolve non-conformances, and define the ethical responsibilities of the involved parties.
