This seminar is open to the public and offers 6.5 continuing education hours to professional engineers and 6.5 HSW continuing education hours to architects in all states. Continuing education is not mandatory in Connecticut.

Course Title: Wood Frame and Steel Frame Design and Construction. 

Delivery Method: Live

Course Description: This is a 6.5 hour live lecture presentation with the instructors and students together in the same room. It will be conducted in a handicap-accessible conference room with ample seating space and writing surface for all attendees. Bound written materials, authored by the faculty, will be distributed to all participants at the program. Attendance will be monitored and reported to AIA/CES. This course covers the fundamentals of wood frame design and construction for residential and small commercial buildings and the American Wood Council’s National Design Specification for Wood Construction, the International Building Code provisions for wood framing, ASCE-7 load combinations for wood framing, and the AISC and AISI code applicability for steel framing.

Learning Objectives: 

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to design and construct wood framing for residential and small commercial buildings that resist fire susceptability, and wind and seismic loads.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to make informed decisions on material selection for steel framing, connections, and fasteners and be able to coordinate steel framing construction with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to reference and understand the American Wood Council’s National Design Specifications for Wood Construction and the wood construction provisions of the International Building Code.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to reference and understand American Institute of Steel Construction Code and American Iron and Steel Institute Code provisions for steel framing of residential and small commerical buildings.
