This seminar is open to the public and offers 6.5 PDHs to professional engineers and land surveyors in most states, including North Carolina. HalfMoon Education is an approved engineer and land surveyors continuing education provider in North Carolina (S-0130).
This course also offers a 6.5 hour continuing education opportunity to architects and landscape architects in most states. The North Carolina Board of Landscape Architects has approved this event for 6.5 continuing education hours.
This event is approved by the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System for 6.5 HSW Learning Units (Sponsor No. J885) and the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System for 6.5 HSW PDHs. Courses approved by the AIA qualify for North Carolina architects. Only full attendance can be reported to the AIA/CES and the LA/CES.

Daryl Norris
Civil Engineer, Floodplain Manager with Norris Environmental Engineering, PLLCMr. Norris is a civil engineer for the City of Greenville, North Carolina, specializing in stormwater engineering, and he is the owner of Norris Environmental Engineering, PLLC. He is a professional engineer, a certified floodplain manager, a certified professional in stormwater quality, and a certified professional in low impact development. Prior to working for the City of Greenville, he worked with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the North Carolina Division of Water Quality. Mr. Norris was also the environmental specialist and floodplain administrator for the City of Wilson. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fish and Wildlife Management and a master’s degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering, both from North Carolina State University.

Course Title: Stormwater Detention/Retention System Design

Course Description: This 6.5 hour live lecture presentation examines stormwater management system objectives and design considerations, stormwater detention, stormwater retention, and sustainable detention and retention options.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to reference federal and state stormwater regulations, discuss the goals of site assessments in developing stormwater plans, and they will be able to describe the purpose of preparing stormwater pollution prevention plans.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to explain the goals stormwater detention ponds, determine the impact area and flow, and discuss their soil preparation, excavation, and vegetation selection.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to explain the goals stormwater retention ponds, determine the impact area and flow, and discuss their soil preparation, excavation, and vegetation selection.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to describe options for sustainable stormwater detention and retention, including the implementation of of low impact development plans, naturalizing retention and detention basins, rain gardens, underground storage, and reuse.
