This seminar is open to the public and offers a continuing education opportunity to California architects, professional engineers, landscape architects and floodplain managers. Continuing education is not required for license maintenance or renewal in California.
This seminar is approved by the American Institute of Architects for 6.0 HSW Learning Units (Sponsor No. J885), the Association of State Floodplain Mangers for 6.0 CECs, and course approval is pending from the Landscape Architect Continuing Education System.

Speakers
Donald Kowalewsky
Donald B. Kowalewsky is chief geologist of Donald B. Kowalewsky Environmental & Engineering Geology in Malibu. Since 1980, his experience includes geologic consulting for the city of Calabasas; landslide stabilization studies in Malibu, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, and Woodland Hills; and expert witness research and testimony for various landslide, debris flow, drainage and land use-related litigation. From 1980-1987 he was engineering geologist for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, responsible for review and approval of all new development including subdivisions, and for grading and construction of new homes, as well as training of other geologists in field and investigation practices. From 1975-2010 he was an adjunct professor for Loyola-Marymount University in Los Angeles. Mr. Kowalewsky’s education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from California State University, Long Beach, and graduate studies in Engineering Geology at the University of Southern California. He is a member of the Association of Engineering Geologists and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.
Binod Tiwari

Dr. Tiwari is a professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of California State University, Fullerton. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical Engineering in 2003 and is expert in the fields of slope stability and stabilization, landslide mitigation, applied GIS, soil behavior and characterization, and geotechnical earthquake engineering. Dr. Tiwari is a member of various technical committees for ASCE and the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and he is editor as well as reviewer for various international journals. He was post-doc at Niigata University, Japan, and at Virginia Tech for more than three years prior to joining CSUF in the fall of 2006. Dr. Tiwari is a licensed professional engineer in the state of California and has more than 20 years experience in design and implementation of projects pertinent to slope stability and stabilization.
