This seminar is open to the public and offers 6.5 HSW PDHs to civil and professional engineers in Tennessee. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Board of Examiners for Land Surveyors has approved this course for 6.5 PDHs.

Civil and professional engineers and land surveyors seeking continuing education credits in other states will be able to claim the hours earned at this seminar, in many cases. Refer to specific rules to determine eligibility.

Attendance will be monitored, and attendance certificates will be available after the seminar for most individuals who complete the entire event. Attendance certificates not available at the seminar will be mailed to participants within fifteen business days.

Mr. Bain assists clients in navigating the legislative and administrative approval process involving land use and zoning within the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County, as well as across the Middle Tennessee region. His expertise includes annexation, land zoning and platting, easements and rights-of-way, historic preservation, deed restrictions and subdivision controls, and condemnation and eminent domain, including inverse condemnation actions. In addition to his land use planning practice, Mr. Bain also specializes in construction law. He works with homeowners, business owners, architects, engineers, and contractors regarding construction contracts and breach of contract disputes, change orders, and general documentation preparation. Before starting the practice of law, Mr. Bain owned and operated a residential and commercial construction company in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mr. Blink is the managing member at Blink Law, LLC, a boutique business law firm based in Nashville. He focuses his practice on real estate, contracts and business planning and structure. Prior to opening Blink Law, he worked for Burke Costanza and Carberry in Northwest Indiana. He also has experience in the litigation department of Anthem Insurance and working for Justice David of the Indiana Supreme Court. Mr. Blink graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law where he was an Articles Editor for the Indiana Law Review. When he isn’t working, he enjoys golfing, fishing, camping and hiking with his lovely wife Katherine and their two dogs, Norris and Topanga.

Mr. Cope advises businesses and government in matters ranging from corporate governance, employment law and risk management, to eminent domain/condemnation litigation. He also maintains an active divorce and child custody practice. Mr. Cope is admitted to practice in Tennessee state court as well as the United States District Court for the Middle and Eastern districts of Tennessee, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. In 2012, Mr. Cope was appointed to a six-year term on the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) by Governor Bill Haslam. He presently serves as chairman of the commission. THEC is the coordinating body for Tennessee’s 51 public colleges, universities, and technology centers, which collectively educate approximately 245,000 students. Mr. Cope graduated from the University of Memphis School of Law where he received the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence in Trial Advocacy and served as a member of the Moot Court Board. While in law school, Mr. Cope clerked for the Honorable Robert L. (Butch) Childers, judge of the Circuit Court of Tennessee at Memphis.

Barry E. Savage, PLS

Survey Products Group Manager with Tennessee Valley Authority in Chattanooga, TN

Mr. Savage began his survey career while in college in 1981. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering Technology. Mr. Savage worked for the next 10 years for various civil/survey firms in positions ranging from crew chief to senior designer. In 1993 he started Savage Surveying and Mapping. While operating his firm Mr. Savage surveyed several state lines to resolve jurisdictional conflicts. He served as survey consultant during the construction of the Ocoee Whitewater venue for the 1996 Olympics. Mr. Savage is currently the Survey Products Manager at the Tennessee Valley Authority providing survey services to support their seven-state service area. He has been an adjunct faculty member at Cleveland State Community College for 20 years where he teaches courses in boundary law, geodesy, and general surveying. Mr. Savage and his students have retraced the historical surveys of Henry David Thoreau on Walden Pond in Concord Massachusetts. He teaches continuing education courses on surveying and boundary issues across the country. Mr. Savage is a licensed surveyor in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama.
