Continuing Education Credit Information
This seminar is open to the public. It offers 7.0 PDHs to professional engineers and 7.0 HSW continuing education hours to architects in all states. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval in South Carolina.

Michael Nier
Michael Nier Master Code Professional with Nier Building Inspections
Mr. Nier is a master code professional and holds 38 certifications from ICC and NFPA. He has over 25 years of technical and managerial experience in both private government partnerships, as well as within the traditional municipal government offices and within the construction industry. His work with various municipalities has included acting as chief building official for the startup of two cities in Georgia where he has done department set up, organization and implementation; plan review; permitting; code enforcement; field inspection; supervision of other inspections; staff reviews and employee training. Mr. Nier has served as a building official in numerous jurisdictions in Georgia, both as an interim as well as a primary official. He is past vice president of Northwest Georgia Inspectors Association and a member of the Fire Sprinkler Exam Development Committee for the International Code Councils’ Board for International Professional Standards. Mr. Nier has taught home inspection and code certification classes to municipal inspectors, home inspectors, remodelers and builders for over 10 years. He previously owned and operated a small “turn-key” remodeling company specializing in residential and light commercial buildings. Mr. Nier is past vice president of the Northwest Georgia Inspectors Association and a member of the Fire Sprinkler Exam Development Committee for the International Code Council.

Course Description: This seven-hour live course examines the International Building Code background and application, building classification, occupancy and safety, regulation of building components, use of specific materials and construction techniques, regulation of interior construction, and safety requirements during construction.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain the International Building Code (IBC) building classifications and occupancy standards, and they will be able to comply with provisions for fire resistance-rated construction, fire protection systems, and doors and windows.
Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to comply with provisions for the use of specific materials, including concrete, masonry, wood, aluminum, steel, glass and glazing, gypsum board and plaster, interior finishes, interior environment, and construction techniques.
Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to comply with IBC regulations of building components, including exterior walls, roof assemblies, structural design, and foundations and soils.
Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to comply with IBC safety requirements during construction, which protect workers, the public and adjoining property.
