This seminar is open to the public and offers a 6.5 hours continuing education opportunity to Washington professional engineers (not required for license renewal), which will qualify for 6.5 PDHs in all other states. This course offers a 6.5 HSW PDHs to Washington architects. Educators and courses are not subject to preapproval in Washington.

Steve Watkins

Senior Preconstruction Manager for BNBuilders in Seattle, WA

Mr. Watkins has been in the construction industry for approximately 30 years. He started in the single-family residential market sector, which led him into land development and then onto commercial estimating. Mr. Watkins has spent the past 15 years in preconstruction and commercial estimating. He has been a chief estimator and director of preconstruction leading estimating teams and departments. Currently Mr. Watkins is a senior preconstruction manager for BNBuilders in Seattle. He has been fortunate enough to have worked on all procurement types from the typical “hard bid,” to design-build, progressive design-build, GC/CM, and private negotiated GMP for vertical construction projects. Mr. Watkins is the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) Northwest Regional Governor and an ASPE Certified Professional Estimator (CPE).

Course Title: Construction Cost Estimating.

Delivery Method: Live

Course Description: This is a 6.5 hour live lecture presentation with the instructors and students together in the same room. It will be conducted in a handicap-accessible conference room with ample seating space and writing surface for all attendees. Bound written materials, authored by the faculty, will be distributed to all participants at the program. Attendance will be monitored and reported to AIA/CES. This course covers types of estimates, estimating resources and processes, estimating labor, equipment, overhead, materials and services, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and profit.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to assemble a competent estimate team, describe the estimating process, and utilize data resources to produce complete and accurate estimates for project owners.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to estimate the costs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and describe the different types of cost estimates (design, bid, and control) and will be able to realize the benefits of complete and accurate estimates for their clients and the design professional.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to estimate construction materials and services, including earthwork, pavements, concrete structures, wood structures, steel structures, masonry, floors, roofing, interiors and finishes.
