Course Title: Basics of Structural Steel Design

Delivery Method: Live

Course Description: This seven-hour live lecture presentation examines preliminary concepts of structural steel design, flexural members, compression members, tension members, combined forces and combined loads, connection design, and structural steel applications, including commercial and industrial buildings, residential buildings, parking structures and bridges.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able distinguish between allowable stress design (ASD) and load and resistance factor design (LRFD) in the design of steel buildings.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to describe forces on structural steel members, including tension forces and compression forces.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to describe strategies for designing connections between structural steel members, including bolted connections and welded connections.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to identify appropriate applications for structural steel design and construction, including commercial and industrial buildings, parking structures and bridges.
