Dr. Ishii is an Associate Professor in the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate as well as the BioTechnology Institute at the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on water quality and public health microbiology. The goal of his research is to solve key environmental problems, specifically (1) nutrient pollution and (2) the occurrences of pathogens. Dr. Ishii received his B.S. degree from the University of Tokyo, his M.S. degree from Iowa State University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Prior to his current position, Dr. Ishii was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Hokkaido University, Japan. He is the recipient of the 3M Nontenured Faculty Award, 2018, and the Young Investigator Award, Japanese Society for Microbial Ecology, 2015.
