Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee School of Architecture & Urban Planning in Milwaukee, WI

Mr. Rute is a licensed Wisconsin architect with extensive experience in construction, design, and regulatory aspects of the built environment. Beginning his journey with exposure to the construction industry, he earned an architectural degree and worked across traditional architectural offices, design/build firms, and corporate settings acquiring experience with many aspects of the profession. Mr. Rute later served as a plan examiner and Manager of the City of Milwaukee Development Center for over 25 years as a code official, collaborating with colleagues at various government levels to adopt, administer, and apply building codes and standards to many and varied building types. Now a consultant, he advises architects, developers, and building & business owners on building and zoning codes and assists with navigating the whitewater of the entitlement process for a variety of development projects. Mr. Rute provides code tutorials to design professionals and is an adjunct professor teaching building codes to architecture students at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee School of Architecture & Urban Planning. He also actively participates in code development sitting on several committees of the International Code Council and the American Institute of Architects Codes & Standards Committee. Mr. Rute is a passionate proponent of preservation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
