Mr. Overton has been working with building codes and life safety requirements in several capacities for 30 years. As an architectural draftsman, he has worked in several firms where his code knowledge was used to review construction documents and to prepare life safety plans and building code summaries. As a construction contract administrator, Mr. Overton was responsible for maintaining the contractual agreement between the owner and contractor. In this role, he was able to evaluate unforeseen site conditions, provide code-compliant solutions and use his knowledge of the code requirements to better evaluate alternatives proposed by the contractors. As a plans examiner, Mr. Overton worked at the Indiana Building Commissioner’s Office where he reviewed projects for all types of commercial construction. As a building code consultant within a private architectural firm, he has worked with projects for the primary and higher education markets and long-term assisted-living facilities. In the role of associate state architect, Mr. Overton was responsible for building code and life safety compliance for the hospital and retirement homes owned by the State of Indiana. Mr. Overton is a member of the National Fire Protection Association and the International Code Council. He is a certified fire protection specialist and certified fire inspector through the National Fire Protection Association. Mr. Overton is a graduate of Purdue University and has an associates degree in applied science in Architectural Technology and a bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology.
