James Nicolora of AKF Group holds a master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. A member of AKF’s Architectural Code Consulting team, he provides building, fire, life safety, and accessibility code reviews for a variety of project types. Mr. Nicolora combines his code consulting expertise and creative approach to problem solving to produce compliance alternatives and performance-based designs where prescriptive code compliance is not possible. He has extensive experience with computational fire and smoke modeling software, which he uses to ensure life safety in the design of atrium smoke exhaust systems, cantilevered buildings, and fire-resistant structures. Mr. Nicolora is currently acting as the liaison to the AHJ on two life science construction projects in the Greater Boston area, where he oversees the special inspections of structural concrete, spray-applied fireproofing, and firestopping.
