Mr. Pereira is currently the chief of Building Services and the interim deputy director for the Resource Management Agency over Public Works, Parks and Facilities for the County of Monterey in California. As registered professional engineer in the state of California, he has spent the past 30 years of his career facilitating construction as a design engineer and city or county official. He is also currently ICC certified as a plans examiner, building inspector, accessibility specialist and building official. Mr. Pereira’s experience includes several jurisdictions including the County and City of Los Angeles, City of Glendale, City of Santa Monica, Temple City, and City of Pasadena, where he has served in various capacities ranging from plans examiner, to inspector, building official and city engineer. He was an adjunct professor for the College of the Canyons, teaching architecture, construction, and building codes. Mr. Pereira’s service to his profession includes several years on the Board of Directors, culminating in president of the Los Angeles Basin Chapter of ICC. He has served on the Administration Code Committee as vice chair of ICC’s Technology Advisory Group, and he chaired the Higher Education Task Group for the Building Official’s Membership Council. He currently serves on the CALBO State Licensing Boards Committee and is a commissioner on the Monterey County Commission on Disabilities. During the past 15 years of consistently attending ICC code hearings, Mr. Pereira has worked to raise the profile of the code official though building consistency, education, and participation of the membership.
