Mohamed El-Gafy, Ph.D., PE, is the managing partner for the Michigan-based Gafy and Company LLC, a consulting firm offering a comprehensive range of products and services that covers all aspects of engineering, construction, and management from conceptualization to commissioning. Mr. El-Gafy is a member of AACE and has 19 years of experience as a construction estimator. In addition, he is an associate professor in the Construction Management Program in the Michigan State University School of Planning, Design, and Construction. Driven by the curiosity to learn, Mr. El-Gafy has been involved in a full range of intellectual and creative engagement activities that have increased his understanding of the field of construction engineering and management and how it interacts with all areas of the built environment. His main research interests center around investigating and re-engineering current construction processes to maximize the value of construction service provided to customers (process owners or project clients) that would result in more sustainable products. Mr. El-Gafy is also interested in investigating the interface of technology and management processes in the construction environment. He has participated in numerous research, teaching and service opportunities of significant scope.
