Madaras, Gary

Dr. Madaras (Dr. Sonic) has a knack for teaching architectural acoustics so it’s easy to understand, memorable and actionable. You leave his seminars and workshops armed with tools and insights to get moving on your buildings right away. He has worked with design, engineering, contracting, and building facilities groups, helping them understand how the acoustic designs of buildings affect occupant wellbeing. Dr. Madaras has taught at Archidex in Malaysia, Society of Acoustics in Singapore, Construct Canada in Toronto, Australian Acoustics Society in Sydney, and BuildEx in Vancouver. He has written articles for Construction Specifier, Commercial Architecture, Acoustical Interior Construction and Spaces4Learning. Dr. Madaras has worked with the National Institutes of Health, General Services Administration, Green Building Initiative and Facility Guidelines Institute to improve the acoustical requirements in their building design standards. His Ph.D. in acoustics and master’s degree in architecture both focused on the acoustics of concert halls. Later, Dr. Madaras began his specialization in the acoustics of healthcare facilities, founding a program called ‘Making Hospitals Quiet’ featured on Wall Street Journal Live. He has worked for over two decades with top-tier acoustic consultancies, acoustic product manufactures and as an independent consultant. When he’s not teaching people about acoustics, Dr. Madaras is an avid DIYer around the house and yard and is a ‘double platinum’ dance-dad for his two teen daughters.
