Sarah Jack Hinners

Ms. Jack Hinners is the director of conservation and research at Red Butte Garden on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City. An urban and landscape ecologist, she has a B.A. degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from McGill University and a PhD degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Prior to her current position, she was on the faculty of the Department of City and Metropolitan Planning at the University for 12 years and founded the Center for Ecological Planning and Design. She has been studying and teaching about stormwater green infrastructure from an interdisciplinary perspective for over a decade and has multiple stormwater reference sites on the University of Utah campus, most notably the Landscape Lab. Ms. Jack Hinners has also taken a leadership role in stewardship of Red Butte Creek on campus, and in her current position at Red Butte Garden, she continues to study and advocate for landscape practices that support and enhance the health of our urban streams and riparian ecosystems.
