Principal Engineer of Advanced Materials Services, LLCDr. Prowell joined AMS in 2007. He has over 20 years of experience in construction, materials and pavement design. Dr. Prowell has designed flexible and rigid pavements for a variety of usages ranging from parking lots, interstate highways and intermodal (port) facilities. He is also active in supporting sustainable engineering concepts, including: warm mix asphalt, pervious pavement materials, and higher utilization of recycled materials. Prior to joining AMS, Dr. Powell was an assistant director at the National Center for Asphalt Technology at Auburn University and a senior research scientist at Virginia Transportation Research Council, a division of Virginia Department of Transportation. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, and a doctorate in Civil Engineering from Auburn University. Dr. Powell has served on a number of Transportation Research Board Committees, including AFK50, Characteristics of Asphalt Paving Mixtures to Meet Structural Requirements, and AFO00 (2), Pavement Materials and the Urban Climate. He is a registered professional engineer in Oregon, South Carolina, and Virginia.
